We are still having fiestas here in Spain! :) This Wednesday is Dia de los Reyes (Kings Day) and then I think we have a little break before the next set of fiestas start up again. It has been so fun to keep listening to Christmas music and everyone is still so happy and friendly! It's as if everyone is still getting ready and anticipating Christmas! I love that the Christmas spirit is still here in Tarragona! I wish it was like this year round!
This week we were fed SO much food for New years! We ate in Alicia´s house with her whole family and the Bishop´s family and the missionaries. After we said the prayer, all of us missionaries loaded our plates with food because we were starving (since lunch isn't til 2 or 3 here). We ate and ate and when we all finished and were stuffed, Hermana Maria Rosa said, "ok let me clear all of this and I will bring out the second course". We all looked at each other STUNNED. We couldn´t believe there was more food. We ended up having 2 more courses and THEN dessert. Me mató!!!!! But it was all incredible and I felt so blessed to be able to eat with all of them to celebrate the new year!
This week has been a week of learning! I learned so much in the training that I am going through with Hermana Carollo. We focused a lot on family history and how we can better use it to help the people come unto Christ. And what we realized is that for the people in Spain... Family History really could be the key!! They don´t necessarily like to listen about the gospel sometimes but they LOVE their families so we are thinking it will be really helpful to try and start passing out family history pass along cards and invite people to come look for their ancestors. It will be a great opportunity to help teach about the importance of families and why our church focuses so much on family history work... leading right into the restoration! I can´t wait! After this incredible insight we had a prompting to share it with a family in our ward! Their dad hasn´t been coming to church recently and we thought since he just retired last week that maybe he would now have time to do family history. We shared our message about the importance of family history and challenged them to do it. The dad didn´t say a word but got up and left the room. We were so worried we had offended him but when he came back he had a HUGE binder FULL of all the family history work he has been doing over the years! WOW. What a miracle! We were so grateful we followed the spirit to teach that lesson and then we talked to the bishopric about having a Noche de Barrio with the dad of this family to teach the classes! The bishopric agreed and now we have a fecha and they are putting the plan into action! I am so excited!!!! I know that family history really can bless and change lives and help people come closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ. I know sometimes we think family history work might be a little boring or time consuming. But I promise you all that as you make time for it that you will find blessings! It is afterall, one of the biggest forms of missionary work!
It is so incredibly important to follow the promptings of the spirit! This week we had a morning where we didn´t have any visits planned so we were going through one of our areas and contacting and doing pass bys. We first had a feeling to go to Jimmy´s house and because of that it lead to us meeting all of his friends and family and we taught them all lessons, set up return visits, got all their information and they all became news!!! They are all from the Phillipines and it was one of the most miraculous experiences I have yet had on my mission! I am so grateful for the spirit and I know that as we follow the promptings we receive we will ALWAYS find miracles!
I am so grateful for the Gospel in my life and the opportunity I have to be a missionary! I know this is the work of the Lord and we can all be a part of it no matter where we are in the world! I know this church is true and I LOVE being a missionary with my whole entire heart!!! Thank you for all of your examples to me! Happy New Year!!!
I love you!!!
Love,
Hermana Eyring
ps. I can now say that I have officially had dreams in Spanish! It was quite a wonderful feeling :)
